‘We are a friendly, safe, caring community in which everyone can be happy and confident and where children can reach their full potential’.

Baines’ Endowed School has a proud history of educating many of the children of Thornton and the surrounding district. It is our aim and commitment to help the children reach the highest possible personal standards in all of their work. If you are a new or prospective parent – welcome to our school! We hope your association with the school is a long and happy one.

The school has a long history. Opened in 1717, it was one of three schools founded by James Baines, a Poulton draper, who left money in his will to ensure the education of the children in this area. Additions and alterations over  the years have made the building an interesting mixture of old and new.

The present school has seven classrooms, a large assembly hall, entrance hall and reception areas, display corridors and a school library. During the course of 2003 a new dining hall and kitchen, together with a purpose built nursery, were added to the school. Within the school boundaries there are two playgrounds and the playing fields. In 2007 a new extension was added to the school to improve the entrance and office facilities. We have an outdoor Foundation Stage play area located within the School Road Playground and a recently developed Key Stage 2 playground.

Our Mission statement above is the backbone to our school life and we use this throughout our school day to help and inspire the young children in our care and the adults in our community.

This brochure tells you something of the life and work of the children in the school and has been put together to encourage the important partnership between home and school. We hope that the information is presented as clearly as possible; however, if you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
